Egyptian Al Ahram newspaper publishes Azeri envoy`s interview
Baku, November 3 (AzerTAc). Egypt-based Al Ahram newspaper has published in its November 1 edition Azerbaijani ambassador Shahin Abdullayev`s interview.
Abdullayev hailed in the interview the fact that Egypt was one of the first countries to recognize Azerbaijan`s territorial integrity. He also praised the current level of cooperation between the two countries.
The ambassador noted President Ilham Aliyev had invited his Egyptian counterpart Hosni Mubarak to Azerbaijan, adding “this visit will give an impetus to development of bilateral ties”.
The diplomat also mentioned Egyptian foreign minister Ahmed Aboul Gheit`s visit to Azerbaijan in May this year, saying 3 documents were signed during the trip.
Abdullayev pointed out the forth meeting of Azerbaijan-Egypt intergovernmental joint commission will be held in March next year. He added issues to be discussed during the meeting would contribute to boosting relationship between the two countries.
Touching upon the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, the ambassador said Armenia`s aggressive policy against Azerbaijan led to the occupation of 20 percent of Azerbaijan`s territories. Hundreds of thousands of Azerbaijanis were driven from their original lands by force, he added. Abdullayev described the conflict as a threat to security in the region. He also spoke of the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs` mediation efforts to settle the dispute and Armenia`s non-constructive position on the issue. The diplomat underlined official Yerevan does not honor documents adopted by international organizations on the issue.
Abdullayev also underscored “other ways are on the agenda on resolution of the conflict, as well”.
