Industry and Commerce staff learn about IT skills

(KPL) 17 trainees from 17 provinces across the country, who work for industry and commerce division, have been upgraded knowledge on information technology system and each province will receive one set of personnel computer.

The opening ceremony for training course was held yesterday in Vientiane capital, under the chairmanship of Minister of Industry and Commerce Nam Viyaket.

"The Information Technology is very important and necessary for the modern society nowadays. It is a work that the ministry paid into account," he said.

The training course and 17 sets of computer were financed by the Foundation of Asian Management Development of Japan (FAMD).

Minister of Industry and Commerce expressed thanks to FAMD for providing financial support and technical assistance to Laos over the past years.

Between 2004 and 2007, the FAMD donated the computers and equipped
with IT system at the IT station at the SME Promotion and Development Office (SMEPDO) as well as other equipments such as laptops, LCD projector and other facilities.

The total funding from FAMD to Ministry of Industry and Commerce from the past and up to new have been more than 500 million kip, including the financial support on the equipments, training, printing manuals and textbooks.

After the skill enhancement, SMEPDO with the cooperation of Lao Law and Consultancy Group (LTM GROUP) has arranged the IT training to disseminate its knowledge learnt to other officials through the funding of FAMD.

Dr Nam emphasised that this technical skill is very important for officials to deploy in their workplace and he hope that through the computers, printers, facilities and skills supported by FAMD, those officials can improve the work productivity and efficiency to the Ministry in order to provide the better service to the society as well as contributing to the national development.

The strong support from FAMD represents the strong
relationship and cooperation between Lao and Japanese public and private sectors.The training course will run from 4 to 8 August at the Laos-Singapore Training centre.
