Gerard Depardieu to act in film in Azerbaijan

Baku, 13 December (AzerTAc). Minister of Culture of Azerbaijan Abulfas Garayev has met today French actor Gerard Depardieu who is here to participate in the 4th International Rostropovich Festival.
The talks focused on prospects for cooperation between Azerbaijan and France in cinematography sphere.
Garayev praised the cultural cooperation between Azerbaijan and France. He added the visit of Gerard Depardieu to Azerbaijan would mark a new stage for implementation of joint projects between the two countries. The Minister also proposed Depardieu to play one of leading roles in a film to be made in Azerbaijan about French writer Alexandre Dumas.
Gerard Depardieu, in turn, said he was very pleased to be in Azerbaijan. “You have a very beautiful city. Interesting, historically important buildings and monuments caught my eye.”
Depardieu pointed out he was ready to cooperate with Azerbaijan in cinematography area.
Minister Garayev also informed Depardieu that Alexandre Dumas and prominent Azerbaijani poet Khurshidbanu Natavan were friends and he said that the film would also cover these parts.
Depardieu was glad that he was informed about this fact and he would like an Azerbaijani actress to play Natavan`s role. “Of course it would be better if Azerbaijani actress plays this role. Maybe this will be so,” he added.
Garayev said the film was expected to be made in several years. He added the Azerbaijani side would send draft scripts to Depardieu for him to choose the best.
