Pakistani PM condemns suicide bombing

ISLAMABAD, Dec 25 – Pakistani Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani has strongly condemned the suicide bomb attack in Bajaur tribal agency, which killed over 40 people.

Correspondents in the region said that a woman bomber blew herself up among the people gathered to receive food aid at a UN-run ration distribution center.

The World Food Program had established the center for the distribution of food aid among the people affected by fighting between the security forces and the Taliban militants in 2008-09.

Prime Minister Gilani deplored the loss of precious lives in the blast, the PM office said.

He declared the act as a brutal activity of the militants who have no regard for the human and religion.

He said that these militants are on the run and the brave people of Pakistan are united against them. He said that fight against these elements would continue till their complete elimination.

The Prime Minister directed the authorities for provision of best health facilities to the injured.

The use of women for suicide attacks is new and a big challenge for the Pakistani security forces as the women could not be searched in the remote or tribal regions.

No group claimed responsibility for the attack. But the authorities blame Taliban militants for such attacks.

The security forces had conducted major ground and air offensive against Taliban in Bajaur in 2008./end
