Tehran seeks UN action over former Iranian deputy defense minister case

TEHRAN, Jan. 1 (MNA) --Iranian Acting Foreign Minister Ali-Akbar Salehi sent a letter to United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, urging him to take action over a report released about the murder of former Iranian deputy defense minister Alireza Asgari in an Israeli prison.

“The UN charter has burdened the UN secretary general with an important responsibility, so we request that you promptly make an effort to clarify the Asgari case,” Salehi explained.

According to a report published on Tuesday, spy agency Mossad killed Asgari in an Israeli prison.

Iran says Asgari was abducted by Mossad agents in Turkey on December 9, 2006.

Although the Zionist media outlets previously claimed that Asgari defected to the West and was granted asylum in a Western country, some Zionist sources announced on Tuesday that Asgari had committed suicide.

Iranian officials are doubtful about the report and believe that either the Zionist regime has martyred Asgari, or it has released a false report “to play a political game” after the recent execution of a Zionist regime’s spy in Iran.

On Wednesday, Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Committee rapporteur Kazem Jalali called on the Foreign Ministry to start legal proceedings at international courts over the Asgari case.

“Undoubtedly, the release of the news has reinforced the suspicion that Asgari has been abducted by the Zionist regime, so this regime is directly responsible for Asgari’s life,” Salehi said.

Abduction of the former Iranian deputy defense minister goes against the international law and is a clear example of state-sponsored terrorism, so the relevant international bodies should respond properly to the Zionist regime’s action, the acting foreign minister added.
