US State of Nevada proclaims March 31 as Azerbaijani Remembrance Day
Baku, January 5 (AzerTAc). Jim Gibbons, Governor of the US State of Nevada, has proclaimed, for the second time, March 31 as Remembrance Day of Azerbaijanis subjected to genocide.
The proclamation signed by the Governor says “the territorial integrity, state sovereignty and independence of the Republic of Azerbaijan are supported by the United States and its citizens”.
It stressed that in March 1918, ethnic and religious tensions grew and the Armenian-Azeri conflict in Baku began and as a result of the conflict, the region suffered thousands of causalities in Baku, Shamakhy, Guba, Shusha, including the deaths of tens of thousands of Azerbaijani civilians.
“Every year since 1918, Azerbaijanis and many people around the globe, observe March 31 as a Day of Remembrance, to honor the victims resulting from the fighting that began in March 1918”, the document emphasizes.
The first proclamation by the State of Nevada came in 2009.
