Iranian, German literati to introduce national poetry
TEHRAN, Jan. 9 (MNA) -- The Iranian poet Ali Ghazanfari and a group of German poets planned to hold joint projects to introduce their national poetry to Iranians and Germans.
“We are holding three projects to introduce Iranians and Germans with the contemporary poetry in two countries and we are negotiating for finding two first-rate publishers in the two countries for releasing the translations,” he told .
Works by five or six poets from each country will be selected for translation. “We will also plan to hold poetry nights in both countries for which the German and Iranian poets should travel to each other’s countries,” he explained.
He went on to say that a part of the project is dedicated to introducing Iranian female poets to Germans and is allocated to female poets after Forugh Farrokhzad.
“Unfortunately, the Iranian cultural organization is not supporting the projects. We are not seeking state support from them but I think their sponsorship would be beneficial for our culture,” he lamented.
He said that he previously translated Khayyam couplets and Sadi, and published them in Persian and German, something that was warmly received in Germany.
“However, no Iranian cultural center buys editions of the book for distribution in Iran,” he lamented.
