Significance of human dignity discussed at Iranian-Swiss religious meeting
TEHRAN, Jan. 10 (MNA) -- The Islamic Culture and Relations Organization (ICRO) hosted the third religious symposium between Iran’s Center for Interreligious Dialogue and the Swiss Bishops Conference under the title “Human Dignity from the Viewpoint of Monotheistic Religions” on Saturday.
The participants stressed that the importance of human dignity would never diminish and that it always has been a fundamental principle underlying human rights from an international perspective.
ICRO Director Mohammad-Baqer Khorramshad, director of Iran’s Center for Interreligious Dialogue Mohammad-Hossein Mozaffari and Swiss bishop Pier Giacomo Grampa, and top official with the Swiss Bishops Conference Erwin Tanner were among the participants.
Khorramshad stressed on the significance of human dignity in Islamic teachings and said that humankind enjoys divine dignity leading man to reach for lofty dignity.
Mozaffari underlined that a human being is born free and his dignity is the most valuable possession in the world.
Archbishop Sebo Sarkissian of Iran’s Armenian community, who was also among the participants, emphasized that every body prays to the same God but through different ways and this is what brings us all together from different parts of the world.
Swiss bishop Pier Giacomo Grampa also delivered a speech on human dignity, saying, “We are gathering here since we believe that deep down in all religions there is a source of love and spirituality which is everlasting. It would be a pity if we don’t make use of this source of love.
“Since man enjoys the love of God, he cannot live on his own and he needs to communicate with others. This communication can help man to assist others, which improves relationships with others, resulting in a better society,” he added.
He concluded that there is still disparity in the world and it is the duty of all to strive for and preserve their dignity.
The meeting will continue for the next two days, January 10 and 11, at the University of Qom.
