Iranian scholars compiling Bushehr Province encyclopedia

TEHRAN, Jan.10 (MNA) -- Iranian Scholar Seyyed Qasem Yahosseini accompanied by a team of experts is compiling a 110-volume encyclopedia on the Province of Bushehr(Iran`s south).

A 35-member team is compiling 74 volumes of the encyclopedia that will be published by the Art Bureau of Bushehr Province, Yahosseini told .

Fifteen volumes of the collection will be unveiled in mid February. The next 30 volumes of the collection will be ready for publication by the next Iranian year (beginning March 22, 2011) if financial support is provided by officials, otherwise only 15 volumes will be published, he added.

“Scholars and students who conduct research on Bushehr Province asked me for a comprehensive source, which indicates to me the need for such a collection of information,” he added.

Monographs on cinema, history of Bushehr in the Safavid era, art and literature, accents, regional poets, female poets, contemporary poets, stories, lullabies, rituals, folk fictions, anthropology and linguistics are available in the collection.

“The Bushehr Art Bureau cannot afford to publish the whole collection. Such projects need national and state support,” he lamented, adding, “If we receive financial support from these organizations, we can publish all the volumes in 3 to 5 years.”

The Dutch Iranologist William Flor is compiling some parts of the encyclopedia, which has been completed and edited by Yahosseini, he asserted.

“There are 500 monographs for the encyclopedia out of which 110 are being written by experts, but I have not found anybody for some of them including geology, archeology and paleontology,” he said.

He said that they plan to publish the encyclopedia in English and Arabic in the near future.
