SOUTH KOREAN ARRESTED FOR MISUSING VISA IN BATAM
Batam, Indonesia, Aug 12 (ANTARA) - The Batam Immigration Office has detained a South Korean national, Kim Hye Jin, for allegedly misusing his visa and working as a restaurant manager in Batam.
"He arrived in Batam using the visa-on-arrival facility but it turned out he was working here," the head of the surveillance section of the Batam Immigration Office, Eddy Yansi, said here on Tuesday.
Kim Hye Jin proved to be working as a manager at the Union Harvest Restaurant of the Golden View Hotel. The owner of the restaurant had a license to employ foreigners issued by the Manpower Ministry.
"But it is still in the form of a basic license that still has to be followed up," Eddy said.
Kim Hye Jin was taken into custody by the Batam immigration office. He had a visa-on-arrival document with an immigration stamp dated August 6, 2008 that would expire on September 6, 2008.
"If found guilty of violating the immigration law, he will be deported," Eddy said.
