Mena projects to play major role in World Future Energy Summit 2011 Project Village

Abu Dhabi, Jan 13, 2011 (WAM)- Ernst and Young has been announced as sponsor of the Project Village at the fourth World Future Energy Summit (WFES) in Abu Dhabi from 17-20 January. The full programme schedule and projects to be exhibited in the Project Village, which is a new feature for this year's event held in association with Ernst and Young and Bloomberg New Energy Finance, has also been revealed.
Eleven Mena projects are among the 20 multinational renewable energy and cleantech projects to be showcased within the inaugural Project Village, which will provide a dedicated platform for project developers to share their latest innovations, and discuss inspirational research and development with world leading technology and finance solution providers.
Among the most prominent of the Mena projects present will be the visionary US$650bn Desertec project that will combine Europe's technology resources with the Mena region's abundant sun and wind energy with the aim of producing 15% of Europe's energy needs, and a substantial amount energy for Mena, by 2050. Some of the region's other top cleantech projects to be showcased will be the 100 MW Solar PV Plant from Jordan's Kawar Energy, worth US$400m, King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST)'s 2MW Solar PV rooftops, and Saudi Arabia's renewable energy city, 'KA-CARE'.
Alongside the projects on display, Ernst and Young and Bloomberg New Energy Finance will run a programme of presentations to stimulate debate and share the latest industry research. Ernst and Young's latest renewable energy report has ranked Egypt among the top 25 national renewable energy markets in the world - the first Mena entrant on the index, and further confirmation of the region's place in the global renewable energy industry. The full report will be the topic of one of a number of presentations taking place in the Project Village, which will also include modules on themes such as 'Clean Energy Financing' and opportunities for the 'Mena Region and Supply Chain'.
