INDONESIA SEES FUTURE, GREEN ARCHITECTURE
Jakarta, Aug 13 (ANTARA) - The progress achieved by Indonesia in architecture and construction building over the past few years has drawn so much international attention that Australia had agreed to discuss the matter and present its latest building products at a seminar dubbed "Style and Design 2008" here Tuesday.
Dr Ciputra, an Indonesian leading developer, said he expected to put architecture as an encouraging and founding factor in the development of a country into action and not just a discussion.
In a session themed "The Future of Indonesian Real Estate" Ciputra referred to the sophisticated, stylish, economical but also environmentally friendly technology of architecture in the cities of developed countries such as Paris, Toronto, Dubai and Singapore as some conditions that he hoped could also be created in Indonesia.
Meanwhile, Ridwan Kamil, another speaker who is also a senior architect said Indonesia was not ready for the environmental project called green architecture.
Kamil said that the efforts toward a whole green architecture, which is building performance driven not a spatial performance, still faced four main problems : lack of education on the matter especially the students and society, non-existence of clear guidelines; changes in the practitioners mentality; and expensive technology.
Since the issue was considered new the guidelines of ratifying green certified buildings hade yet to be drawn up. In fact, the Green Building Council, the authoritative institution on this matter, had just been formed. Thus the public still needed to be familiarized with it through media campaigns. The situation was referred to as partial green efforts by Kamil.
At present the green efforts could be made in two options, changing lifestyle or applying technology. Due to financial incapability to acquire expensive technology it should take creative and innovative ways of simpler ones to keep the process going
