Tehran Times chief calls for media-expats interaction
TEHRAN, Jan. 16 (MNA) -- Reza Moqaddasi, the managing director of the Tehran Times and the Mehr News Agency, called on Saturday for promotion of interaction between the national media and the Iranians expatriates living in different foreign countries.
“We should make our relationship with the Iranians who live in different parts of the world more effective,” Moqaddasi told a seminar arranged to discuss the role of media in the interaction with Iranian expatriates.
The national media have not responded properly to the demands of the Iranian expatriates and unfortunately the foreign media outlets have taken advantage of this gap to achieve their goals, he said, emphasizing that this problem should be resolved through identifying and addressing the needs of the Iranian diaspora.
The domestic media outlets through giving wide and effective coverage to the national and international developments can prevent the foreign media from negatively affecting the Iranian public opinion through spread of false and distorted news, he added.
Moqaddasi also said that the national media should target the second and third generations of Iranians who live in the foreign countries.
The domestic media should try to familiarize these generations with the Iranian culture and the Farsi language, he stated.
Elsewhere in his remarks, he said that the potential of the Iranian English-language newspapers has not been properly utilized so far and called for greater efforts to promote the status of the domestic English-language media.
