Iranian seized ships to be released
TEHRAN, Jan. 16 (MNA) -- Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast said that the Islamic Republic of Iran Shipping Lines (IRISL) is making efforts to free its ships which have been seized in international waters.
The ships were seized due to Iran’s debts, but all debts have been settled, Mehmanparast stated.
He added that the seizure of Iranian ships is also partly due to the sanctions imposed on the country as well as malicious moves by the United States and certain foreign countries.
Recently, two Iranian ships were seized in Hong Kong and Malta because Iran had borrowed $280 million from a German bank and the bank had refused loan repayment by installment.
Earlier IRISL had freed three Iranian ships which had been seized in the Singaporean waters.
A court in Singapore had ordered that the ships be seized, claiming that Iran had not repaid the loan it received from a bank in France to buy the ships.
