OLYMPICS (BADMINTON) - RI'S MARIA KRISTIN DEFEATS INDIAN SHUTTLER

Beijing, Aug. 13 (ANTARA) - Indonesian shuttler Maria Kristin (23) defeated Saina Nehwal of India 26-28, 21-14, 21-15 in the women's singles match of the Beijing Olympics 2008 at the Beijing University of Technology, on Wednesday.

The victory has assured Kristin of a ticket to the Beijing Olympics' badminton semi-finals.

Patience was the key of her success in the game, Kristin, the world's 21st ranked shuttler, told the press after the game.

She said she had lost concentration in the first round of the rubber set.

"I was later instructed by my coach Hendrawan to play more patiently and to concentrate harder, and it worked, so I won the game," she said.

In the earlier Beijing Olympic matches, Kristin, a finalist in this year's Uber Cup, beat Germany's Juliane Schenk 18-21, 21-18, 22-20 and Tine Rasmussen from Denmark 18-21, 21-19, 21-14.

Indonesia won two bronze medals from weightlifting in the Beijing Olympic Game 2008, placing the country in the 33th rank in the overall medal standings of the Olympics being participated in by 204 countries.
