Iranian Majlis speaker says Iran ready to help Sudan achieve stability

TEHRAN, Jan. 19 (MNA) -- Iranian Majlis speaker Ali Larijani said it is Iran’s policy to facilitate the establishment of peace and stability in Sudan, emphasizing Iran favors maintenance of the territorial integrity of the African country.

“Iran’s principled policy is to help Sudan to maintain its stability and territorial integrity,” Larijani said in a meeting with the Sudanese ambassador to Tehran on Tuesday.

Iran is ready to help Sudan make progress and development, he said.

On southern Sudan’s referendum held last week on independence from the north, Larijani said the recent developments in Sudan are “new seditions” in the region which will harm the regional countries and the Islamic world.

He went on to say that the major powers will not meet their commitments and create many problems for the Sudanese nation in the future.

Larijani also pointed to the important role the two countries’ parliaments can play in strengthening cooperation between Tehran and Khartoum and said Iran’s Majlis is ready to help enhancement of ties between Iran and Sudan.

The Sudanese ambassador also said that his country’s government and nation have always appreciated Iran’s help to their country.

Iran-Sudan relationship has the potential for expansion, particularly in agricultural, industrial, and commercial areas, the diplomat noted.

The ambassador also submitted Sudanese parliament speaker’s message about recent developments in the country to Larijani.
