Salehi, Davutoglu discuss nuclear issue, Lebanon crisis
TEHRAN, Jan. 19 (MNA) -- Iranian acting Foreign Minister Ali-Akbar Salehi held talks late Monday with Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu in Ankara, examining Iran’s nuclear issue and the latest developments in the region particularly the Lebanon crisis.
Salehi highlighted the importance of Iran’s initiative in letting the foreign visitors tour its nuclear sites just before talks between Iran and the major powers in Istanbul on January 21 and 22.
Salehi described the nuclear tour by foreign diplomats as a move which shows the transparency of Iran’s nuclear program.
On the recent developments in Lebanon which led to the collapse of Saad Hariri’s government and plunging the country into a political turmoil, the senior Iranian diplomat said it is Iran’s principled policy to back stability in Lebanon.
Salehi also hailed Iran-Turkey relationship as historic and durable, and called for expansion of ties in all areas.
He added that the annual trade between the two countries has the potential to reach 30 billion dollars.
Davutoglu also said that a good and friendly relationship between Tehran and Ankara contributes to regional stability.
He also commented on the upcoming talks between Iran and the five permanent members of the UN Security Council and Germany and said Turkey will closely monitor developments during the talks.
