Iranian artists to hang works in Kuala Lumpur

TEHRAN, Jan. 19(MNA) -- Malaysia-based Iranian artists will be displaying their artworks in an exhibition opening on January 22 in Kuala Lumpur.

A group of 20 artists will put their works on display for two weeks at the Cube Gallery, Iranian director of the gallery Asghar Yaqubi told on Tuesday.

The organizer believes the exhibit will act as a firm response to the negative news spread about Iranians involved in drug trafficking in Malaysia, which has caused negative impact inside the country.

Based on reports released by Malaysian news agencies, there was a steep increase last year in the number of Iranians suspected of drug trafficking arrested in Malaysia.

Persian art and culture is a great treasure narrating part of the rich culture and civilization of Iran, and Iranian artists are invited to portray part of their rich heritage of art and culture, Yaqubi said.

Scholars Amir-Hossein Andarzgu and Mandana Barkeshli, Associate Professor of Department of Applied Art and Design at International Islamic University in Malaysia will also display their artworks at the exhibit.
