PRESIDENT CONFERS SERVICE MEDALS ON 18 NATIONAL FIGURES
Jakarta, Aug 14 (ANTARA) - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono conferred medals of honor on 18 national figures for their meritorious services to the nation at the State Palace here on Thursday.
The medals were divided into four categories, namely Adiprana Mahaputra , Jasa Utama , Jasa Pratama , and Dharma Parama Budaya.
Adiprana Mahaputera medals were presented to People's Consultative Assembly (MPR) Deputy Chairman AM Fatwa, former religious affairs minister Muhammad Tholhan Hasan, and former military chief Marshal (ret) Djoko Suyanto.
Six people received a Jasa Utama medal, namely former culture and tourism ministry secretary general Sapta Nirwandar, former chief of the trade ministry's training and development board Suhadi Mangkusuwondo, chief of the State Cryptographic Institute Maj Gen Nachrowi Ramli, chief of the National Archives Djoko Utomo, deputy chief of natural resources development technology at the Agency for Assessment and Application of Technology (BPPT) Jana Tjahjana Anggadireja, and Indonesian Safari Garden director Jansen Manansang.
Seven Pratama Jasa medals were conferred on Jambi Mayor Arifien Manap, Pekanbaru Mayor Herman Abdullah, Indragiri Hulu District Head Raja Thamsir Rachman, Central Lampung District Head Andy Achmad Sampurna Jaya, PT Telekom Indonesia consumer director Ermady Dahlan, chief of East Java's Women's Cooperatives Center Joos Siti Aisjah, and Pauruan Regional Representatives Council (DPD) member Mahmud Ali Zain.
Recipients of Dharma Parama Budaya medals were Misbach Yusa Biran, an artist who has written around 30 film scenarios, and Sutardji Calzoum Bahri, a poet who has written eight books on poems and short stories.
