48 MALAYSIAN STUDENTS CHOOSE IPB FOR 2008-2009 ACADEMIC YEAR

Bogor, W Java, Aug 14 (ANTARA)- A total of 48 Malaysian new students have chosen the Bogor Institute of Agriculture (IPB) to continue their study in the 2008-2009 academic year.

Arriving at the IPB campus, the Malayasian students were greeted by IPB rector Dr Herry Suhardiyanto, the Institute's spokesperson Henny Windarti said here Thursday.

During the ceremony of welcoming the Malaysian students, Awang Rahim Haji Awang Ali, chairman of the Indonesian Association of Malaysian University Graduates, expressed happiness to see that so many Malaysian had been given an opportunity to study at the IPB, so that later they may apply what they had learnt in Bogor to the agricultural development of their country.

"We have to thank IPB, because Malaysia's agricultural sector would not as it is now with IPB's help," he said.

"Many of Malaysia's ranking officials working at government and private institutions are IPB graduates," Awang said, adding that IPB is very popular in Malaysia.

In the meantime, IPB rector Dr Herry Suhardiyanto, said the current enrolment of Malaysian students at IPB was a resumption of similar enrolments after discontinued for several years.
