Iran’s envoy declares developing states’ stance on use of space

TEHRAN,Feb.8(MNA)-- Iran’s ambassador to International organizations in Vienna, Ali Asghar Soltanieh, declared on Monday the stance of developing countries on a peaceful use of space.

He made the remarks in an address to the 48th session of the United Nation’s Commission on Science and Technology for Development (CSTD) in Vienna.

Soltanieh is the chairman of the Group of 77 (G-77) which was established on June 15, 1964 by seventy-seven developing countries signatories to the Joint Declaration of the Seventy-Seven Countries.

During his address, Soltanieh highlighted the importance of a peaceful use of space, international cooperation on transfer of technology, environment protection, and other related issues.

The CSTD is a subsidiary body of the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC). It was established in 1992 to provide the General Assembly and the Economic and Social Council with high-level advice on relevant issues through analysis and appropriate policy recommendations or options in order to enable those organs to guide the future work of the United Nations, develop common policies and agree on appropriate actions.
