ANWAR ENTITLED TO HAVE COPY OF POLICE REPORT OF SODOMY AGAINST HIM
PUTRAJAYA, Aug 15 (Bernama) -- People's Justice Party (Parti Keadilan Rakyat) (PKR) advisor Anwar Ibrahim, who has been charged with sodomy, is entitled to have a copy of the pertinent police report made against him, Home Minister Syed Hamid Albar said Thursday.
He said he did not know why a copy of the report had not been handed to Anwar although he had been charged.
"According to the law, he is entitled to have a copy of the police report to enable him to prepare his defence.
"I do not know. You have to ask those handling the case for the answer. I am only the Home Minister and am not involved in the investigation and prosecution," he said when asked why Anwar had yet to be given a copy of the police report.
Anwar was charged on Aug 7 with sodomising his former aide, Mohamad Saiful Bukhari Azlan. He pleaded not guilty and was released on a personal bond of RM20,000 without surety.
Meanwhile, Syed Hamid said no directive had been issued prohibiting "The Herald" Catholic newspaper from publishing news on the Permatang Pauh by-election.
He said, however, that the contents of the newspaper should be in accordance with the terms and conditions of its permit.
If the newspaper had only applied for a permit to publish news on religion, then it should adhere to the relevant terms and conditions and not publish unrelated material, he said.
