Tehran working for regional security: Larijani tells Qatar
TEHRAN, Feb.10(MNA) – Iranian Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani held talks with Speaker of Qatar’s Advisory Council Mohamed bin Mubarak al-Khulaifi in Doha on Wednesday.
During the meeting, Larijani said that the United States and the Zionist regime are undermining regional security.
However, “The Iranian nation has always supported regional states and is making efforts to help stabilize the region,” Larijani stated.
Larijani also said, “The U.S. and the Zionist regime are seeking to create disunity among the Islamic world’s states through sowing sectarian strife between Shias and Sunnis.”
Shias and Sunnis must focus on their commonalities, he emphasized.
“We are opposed to the behavior of the U.S. and the Zionist regime. That is why we gave (spiritual) support to Hezbollah during the 33-day war (with Israel). We also supported Hamas and (the people of) Gaza,” Larijani stated.
This indicates that Shias and Sunnis are equal in the eyes of the Iranians, he added.
The Qatari speaker also said that Iran is playing a key role in promoting regional stability.
Larijani also discussed the latest developments in the Islamic world with Qatari Crown Prince Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani.
The Iranian speaker also met with Qatari Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani in Doha late on Wednesday.
The two sides discussed the latest developments in the region as well as issues of mutual interest.
