Iranian chess grandmaster smashes Guinness record
TEHRAN, Feb. 10 (MNA) -- Iranian chess grandmaster Ehsan Ghaem-Maghami set a new Guinness record on Tuesday.
He simultaneously played against 614 opponents in Tehran’s Shahid Beheshti university, scoring 590 wins, 16 draws and 8 loses for a winning percentage of over 90 percent.
“I walked about 55 kilometers and was awake for 25 hours. Now I have to think about setting a sleeping record. I am so happy because I achieved this new world record,” Ghaem-Maghami said.
The sponsor of the event awarded a brand new Mazda-3 car to Ehsan Ghaem Maghami.
In October 2010, the Ukraine-born chess grandmaster Alik Gershon competed simultaneously against 525 players in Tel Aviv, Israel.
In August 2009, another Iranian grandmaster, Morteza Mahjoub, played 500 games simultaneously in Tehran’s Enghelab Sports Complex, scoring 397 wins, 90 draws and 13 loses for a winning percentage of 88.4 percent.
