STATE SECRETARY DENIES PRESIDENT'S ADDRESS IS A CAMPAIGN
Jakarta, Aug 16 (ANTARA) - Minister/State Secretary Hatta Rajasa denied the state-of-the-nation address of President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono on the 2009 Draft State Budget before the House of Representatives was a general election campaign.
"The state address is purely based on the performance and achievements the government has made and the program to be implemented in 2009, and has nothing to do with a general election campaign," he said at the state palace here on Friday.
According to him, the president had sincerely explained that some targets had yet to be met. "Those are facts the head of state had conveyed and it is not a form of a campaign."Touching on a raise in teachers' salaries, he said that it had already been the president's program since he accepted the presidency in 2004.
"Yudhoyono is committed to raise the salaries of civil servants in stages, starting from the minimum two million rupiah. It has already been in the government's program since SBY assumed the presidential post in 2004," Hatta said.
As to data on poverty, which went as far as March 2008, the government only wished to convey accurate data based on the results of surveys, and not on predictions.
"Those are accurate data from the Central Burea of Statistics (BPS). And we do not wish to mention data which have yet to be verified by BPS," he said.
