Boroujerdi welcomed British Ambassador to Tehran, Simon Gass, has been appointed as the new NATO civilian representative in Kabul.
TEHRAN (MNA) -- Iranian senior lawmaker Alaeddin Boroujerdi welcomed the news that the British Ambassador to Tehran, Simon Gass, has been appointed as the new NATO civilian representative in Kabul.
“It makes us happy that the British ambassador leaves Iran, because his presence is of no use,” he said.
It seems that it is the British government’s ploy to remove its ambassador to Iran, he said, adding that Iran prefers that the Britain decides not to have any ambassador in Iran.
Simon Gass became a controversial figure after he made claims about the poor situation of human rights in Iran.
Gass’s allegations against the Islamic republic drew severe criticism from Iranian parliamentarians and officials.
Some Iranian MPs proposed that the British ambassador would be called the persona non grata and some other lawmakers called for his expulsion.
The Majlis is also deliberating on a plan calling for severance of diplomatic ties with the Britain.
