Intl. scholars heading to Tehran for Islamic unity conference
TEHRAN, Feb.14(MNA) -- Scholars from 57 countries were invited to attend the 24th International Islamic Unity Conference in Tehran, World Forum for Proximity of Islamic Schools of Thought Secretary General Ayatollah Mohammad Ali Taskhiri stated at a press conference in Tehran on Sunday.
Organized by the World Forum for Proximity of Islamic Schools of Thought, the conference will be held from February 19 to 21 at the IRIB International Conference Center.
At the beginning of the press conference, Ayatollah Taskhiri congratulated the Egyptian and Tunisian nations on the victory of their uprisings.
He went on to say that certain countries are denying the Islamic nature of these uprisings.
“(But) it is obvious that religious motives were behind these movements, and… (the uprisings) were inspired by the Islamic Revolution of Iran… the popular uprisings in Egypt and Tunisia started from mosques,” the cleric added.
