PRESIDENT TO MEET ACEH TSUNAMI GIRL SURVIVOR, AMERICAN PEN PAL
Jakarta, Aug. 16 (ANTARA) - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono is to receive Nada Lutfiyyah, a 12-year-old Acehnese girl who survived the 2004 tsunami, and her US pen pal Maggie Hamilton from Michigan, at the State Guest House Palace here on Saturday.
Nada and Maggie have been invited to be present at the Presidential Palace on Sunday (August 17) for the celebration of the 63rd Anniversary of Indonesian Independence.
Presidential spokesman Dino Patti Djalal said earlier President Yudhoyono had acted as a courier to deliver the two girls' letters in 2005.
Maggie Hamilton wrote a letter to Nada after Aceh was hit by tsunami on December 26, 2004. Nada then wrote a reply which was carried by President Yudhoyono to the United States where he gave it to Indonesian Ambassador Soemadi Brotodiningrat for conveyance to Maggie.
Yudhoyono also read the content of Nada's letter to President George W Bush when the latter visited Indonesia.
In her letter Nada told Maggie that she had lost her parents and brothers in the deadly tsunami. However, she was glad to know that she still had Maggie as a friend.
