RI FLAG HOISTED AT SAN FRANCISCO CITY HALL
New York, Aug 15 (ANTARA) - Indonesia's red-and-white flag was hoisted at San Francisco City Hall on Friday to mark the 63rd anniversary of Indonesian independence , RI consul general Yudhistiaranto Sungadi told ANTARA here over the telephone from San Francisco on Friday evening.
He said the San Francisco city administration had also declared August 17 as Indonesian Heritage Day in the United States' second biggest city.
"The red-and-white flag hoisting ceremony at the San Francisco City Hall marks the good relation and mutual understanding between Indonesia and the United States, especially San Francisco city," Yudhistiranto said.
He said the flag raising ceremony was led by two San Francisco City Hall officials: Mark Chandler and William Lee, and attended by Yudhistiranto and a number of Indonesian consulate staffers in the city.
Yudhistiranto said the Indonesian Heritage Day was declared to appreciate Indonesia's cultural diversity and the Indonesian community's contribution to the development of San Francisco.
"We hope this event will further enhance the existing good relations between Indonesia and the United States," he said.
