WHIRLWIND HITS MORE THAN 100 HOUSES IN N SUMATRA
Medan, N Sumatra, Aug 17(ANTARA) - A whirlwind swept through 10 villages in Deli Serdang district, North Sumatra, at dawn on Saturday, causing damage to more than one hundred houses.
The whirlwind occurred when residents were still in beds, Paino, resident of Sei Rotan village, said.
"When I heard the loud sound of wind I and my wife woke up. I thought it was a whirlwind so I and my wife and child under five rushed outdoors to save ourselves," he said.
No casualty was reported in the disaster which caused hundreds of millions of rupiahs in material losses.
The whirlwind-hit villages are Aras Kabu, Kuala Namu, Karang Anyar, Sidodadi, Pasar Lima, Pasar Enam, Tembung, Sambirejo Timur, Bandar Setia and Sei Rotan.
