Azeri ambassador presents credentials to Maltese President
Baku, February 18 (AzerTAc). Ambassador of Azerbaijan to Italy Vagif Sadigov who has got concurrent accreditation to Malta has presented his credentials to Maltese President George Abela.
Mr. Sadigov conveyed President Ilham Aliyev`s greetings to the Maltese President.
He also extended President Ilham Aliyev`s invitation to pay a visit to Azerbaijan.
The ambassador highlighted Azerbaijan`s foreign policy, social and economic progress and the role of the country in the region.
Mr. Sadigov said Azerbaijan and Malta enjoy steady cooperation.
The Azeri ambassador also underlined the two countries have great potential to expand bilateral cooperation, in particular political, economic, tourism and culture fields.
The diplomat said Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Malta Tonio Borg was expected to visit Azerbaijan, adding this visit would contribute to developing relations between the countries.
Then, Sadigov informed the Maltese President on the current state of talks on the Armenia-Azerbaijan Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.
The ambassador expressed regret over lack of progress in peace talks and Armenians` continuing occupation of the Azeri lands.
President George Abela thanked the Azerbaijani President for the invitation.
The President underlined that Malta attaches great importance to cooperation with Azerbaijan.
They stressed there were ample opportunities for cooperation in a number of fields, in particular information technologies, trade, health and education.
