STATE FIRM WORKERS STAGE RALLY
Jakarta, Aug 18 (ANTARA) - Some 100 state company workers staged a rally outside the Indonesian Broadcasting System (RRI) building here on Monday to voice their opposition to a plan to sell a number of state firms.
The workers grouped in the Committee for National Solidarity (KSN) asked the government to stop privatizing the public sector and selling state companies which constituted the country's strategic assets.
"We firmly reject and protest against the systematic attempt taken by the management of state firms to deprive workers of the right to assemble," the rally's coordinator, Khamid, said.
In the rally, the demonstrators chanted slogans asking the government to maintain state firms.
Earlier in the day, the demonstrators also held a similar rally outside the office of the state enterprises minister.
