STATE BUDGET MUST FOCUS ON INFRASTRUCTURE DEVELOPMENT: HIPMI
Jakarta, Aug 18 (ANTARA) - The Indonesian Association of Young Entrepreneurs (Hipmi) said spending of the 2009 state budget should be focused on the development of infrastructures in order to improve the investment climate and reduce the poverty rate.
"The 6.2 percent economic growth target as set in the draft 2009 state budget could be achieved through infrastructure development in various parts of the country," Hipmi Chairman Erwin Aksa said here on Monday.
The Hipmi chairman said that the budget should be spent on effective and efficient infrastructure development programs so that it would have a direct effect on the economic growth, on increasing the people's purchasing power and on improving their welfare.
Erwin Aksa said that the economic growth target as contained in the draft 2009 state budget --delivered by President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono in his state of the nation address last week-- was an optimistic and realistic one.
"The people hope what the government has explained and set is a realistic target, not a political rhetoric in the face of the 2009 legislative and presidential elections," he said.
Erwin Aksa said that the 6.2 percent economic growth and 6.5 percent inflation rate targets as set in the draft state budget were a challenge the government had to achieve owing to the fact that commodity prices were still high and the people's purchasing power was still weak.
"The government has to work hard to achieve the targeted economic growth," the Hipmi chairman said.
He said that the government had to create conducive business climate to boost the development of the real sector and to realize infrastructure projects that had been planned but not yet done so far.
Erwin Aksa said that the government's expansive draft 2009 state budget was realistic to support the economic growth target.
The government has prepared an expansive state budget with Rp1,122 trillion expenditure allocation, far over the state revenues and grant which were set at Rp1,022 trillion.
"With this condition, it is relatively realistic for the government to achieve its economic growth target next year," the Hipmi chairman said.
