Afghans prefer returning home as fuel price goes up in Iran: report
TEHRAN, Feb.22(MNA)-- Following the implementation of the subsidy reform plan in Iran and the subsequent rise in the fuel price, more immigrants from Afghanistan prefer to leave Iran and go back to their own country.
According to the report, George Wood, the UN official based in Tehran, said that the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees is trying to resolve the Afghan immigrants’ problems caused by the subsidy cuts in Iran in cooperation with the Iranian Interior Ministry’s department for foreign nationals.
For this purpose, five million dollars have been allocated and there is a plan to give special coupons to Afghan immigrants.
The UN is also trying to persuade Iran to supply Afghan households living in this country with subsidized gas.
