Iran Envoy: US loses position in region

Madrid, March 1, IRNA –Iran's Ambassador to Spain Morteza Saffar Natanzi said here Monday that the recent developments in Mideast and North Africa has led to loss of superior position for United States.
Speaking with Spain’s official news agency EFFE, Natanzi predicted, “If these developments would lead to the emergence of a democratic wave in the region that would boost Iran’s geopolitical role in the region.”
Saffar emphasized, “Elimination of the US hegemony on the countries in which the uprisings have been successful in toppling the pro-US regimes, even if they would not lead to the emergence of Islamic political systems, would lead to boosting their relations with Iran, which is naturally disliked by Washington, which is currently trying to inject money to them, and to the Iranian opposition, to avoid the occurrence of that status.
EFFE has quoted Saffar as saying that in recent anti government rallies in Iran a number of armed CIA agents have been arrested that proves Washington has be involved in triggering unrest in Iran.
He added, “Although the Egyptian, Bahraini, Yemeni, and Tunisian uprisings are not comparable with the Islamic Revolution of Iran, but they can be classified as Islamic uprisings, which is obvious in the slogans heard in their rallies.”
Referring to the Iranian MPs demand for putting to trail the opposition leaders for weakening the government, he said, “That shows the people’s representatives wrath against the moves made by Moussavi and Karroubi.”
He added that the opposition leaders have all been top government officials during the 30 year history of the revolution, adding, “Yet, they are currently supported by the opposition terrorist grouplets, which is proof for their lack of political stability./end
