Iran Navy displayed its military might by entering Mediterranean

Damascus, March 1, IRNA – Navy Commander Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari said the presence of the Iranian Navy vessels in international waters displayed its military might to the whole world.

Talking to IRNA on Monday prior to leaving the Syrian capital for Tehran at the end of his six-day visit to Syria, he said the presence of the country's vessels in the international waters is a proof to the fact that the Islamic Republic and its marine forces have managed to defy the sanctions by turning threats into chances.

Stressing the positive outcome of the visit of the Iranian warships on the country’s relations with foreign countries, the Rear Admiral further noted that the very fact that the flag of Iran was hoisted in waters about 8,000 kilometers away from home indicates Iran’s potential and capabilities.

He believed that this presence was of positive outcome for the whole region because of Iran’s particular role and position in the region.

As for the objectives of the visit of the Iranian warships to Syria, the Iranian Navy commander said the main objective of the visit was to give students of the Navy colleges a chance to get practical trainings in the international waters.

As for the objectives of the voyage at the international level, he said it aimed at promoting such notions as peace, friendship and consolidating ties with regional countries.

Commenting on the propaganda ballyhoo by the Zionist regime regarding the presence of the Iranian Navy vessels in Syrian waters, he said this was due to the fact that the Zionist regime was afraid of any kind of moves because it is aware of its own weak position in the world.

He said the Zionist regime had no place and status in the region which makes it indulge in such propaganda ballyhoo./end
