AGUS CONDRO NOT ALONE IN RECEIVING BRIBE
Jakarta, Aug 20 (ANTARA) - A member of the Indonesian Democratic Party, Agus Condro, admitted that he was not alone in receiving the Rp500 million bribe as a reward for causing Miranda Gultom become senior deputy governor of Bank Indonesia.
Speaking to the press at the House of Representatives here on Wednesday, Agus said his colleagues in the House each received about Rp500 million. Among them were William Tutuarima, Budiningsih, Mateus Formes and Muhammad Iqbal.
"When I was in the room of the Chairman, there were four persons. I don't know who are in the other shift," Agus said on the sidelines of his meeting with the PDI-P faction's secretary, Bambang Wuryanto.
Agus Condro admitted to have received the money in Emir Moeis' room from Dudhie Makmun Murod.
At that time, he added, he could only guess that the money amounted to Rp500 million in ten checques from Bank International Indonesia (BII) as a reward for making Miranda Gultom deputy governor of Bank Indonesia (central bank).
The money was given after three weeks of Miranda's appointment as the bank's senior deputy governor. "This is often regarded as reward for an understanding," he said.
Asked why he uncovered the case a few months before the general election, he said that he already had an intention to return the money a long time ago. Only that he had returned two cars, it was difficult for him to collect Rp500 million.
"If the two cars are not enough, I have an apartment. It could be confiscated. The rest of the money is still with me, it will be returned," Agus said.
In relation to the protection of a witness, Agus said he did not receive any threat with his confession to the Corruption Eradiction Commission (KPK). "If KPK wants to provide him protection, it is up to them."Responding to the result of the meeting with Agus, PDI-P faction secretary Bambang Wuranto said the PDIP faction has yet to give an assessment. "It's too premature to provide such assessment," Bambang said.
