UNHCR hails UAE support to refugees issues
Abu Dhabi, March 2, 2011 (WAM) - The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees has hailed the initiatives of HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler's Representative in Western Region and Chairman of the UAE Red Crescent, in support of the UNHCR efforts around the world.
The Commission asserted that Sheikh Hamdan plays a major role in strengthening UNHCR's capacity to carry out its duty in protecting millions of refugees and displaced persons fleeing from the intensity of conflicts and the impact of disasters. It also commented his efforts in upholding the human dignity of those who are displaced around the world.
Addressing a symposium on the concept of asylum and its relation to human trafficking, which was organised by the Centre for victims of human trafficking at the Family Development Foundation, Brigitte Khair Mountain, Senior Advisor and Head of Office of the UNHCR External Relations Hub in the GCC, said that UAE is one of the major supporters of refugee issues in the world. - Emirates News Agency, WAM
