Wasit Provincial Council Chairman rejects calls for early elections
Kut (NINA) – Chairmen of Wasit Provincial Council, Mahmoud Abdul Ridha, rejected the Iraqi Parliament Speaker’s and Premier’s calls for early provincial councils elections.
Abdul Ridha told NINA correspondent that “dismissing the provincial councils and hold re-elections is not the perfect solution for the bad services presented to Iraqis; some of these services are related to the government’s executive departments’ performance.”
Provincial councils should be supported with new laws that grant them wider authorities in monitoring and questioning local executive authorities, he added.
