Brazilian Media are welcome in Iran: IRNA chief

Sao-Paulo, March 13, IRNA – Presidential Advisor in Press Affairs and Managing Director of Islamic Republic News Agency Ali-Akbar Javanfekr said he welcomes presence of Brazilian media in Iran so that they can dispatch real and independent reports about developments in Iran.
Javanfekr, who is visiting Brazil, was talking with Otavio Frias Filho, the owner of Folha de S. Paulo Press Corporation who expressed his desire to send a reporter to Tehran.
Javanfekr, referring to the importance of Iran's developments, suggested that Folha establish its Middle East and Central Asia regional bureau in Tehran.
He said direct coverage of Iran and Brazil news by local media of the two countries can thwart efforts by certain western countries to damage close relations between Tehran and Brasilia.
In the meeting, Iran's Ambassador to Brasilia Mohsen Shaterzade expounded on Iran's economic and industrial progress and Frias Filho expressed hope that opening of IRNA and Folha bureaux in Iran and Brazil could help bring a better understanding of events in the two countries.
Frias Filho told his Iranian visitor, 'We have questions about certain developments in Iran and your country's viewpoints on regional and international events such as current crisis in the Middle East and Iran's nuclear programs; but we have to get our responses from other media.'
After the meeting, IRNA chief and his accompanying delegation visited different sections of Folha de S.Paulo newspaper. Javanfekr also answered various questions posed by the political and economic editors of the paper./end
