Samsung Heavy wins 1.2 tln won drill ship order

SEOUL, April 6 (Yonhap) -- Samsung Heavy Industries Co., South Korea's No. 3 shipbuilder, said Wednesday that it has won a 1.2 trillion won (US$1.1 billion) deal to build two drill ships.
Under the deal with A.P. Moeller-Maersk AS, Samsung Heavy will deliver the vessels, used to explore for oil and gas wells in deep waters, by the end of 2013, the company said in a regulatory filing.
Shares of Samsung Heavy closed at 42,600 won on the Seoul bourse, up 3.52 percent.
Last month, Samsung Heavy won a deal from an American client to build two drill ships for 1.2 trillion won as well.
The shipbuilder is targeting orders worth $11.5 billion this year, and it said earlier it was in talks with customers to win orders valued at $7.2 billion.
So far this year, Samsung Heavy has won deals valued at $3.46 billion.
