Biden slams Bush administration's foreign policy By Sridhar Krishnaswami
Washington, Aug 28 (PTI) Democratic vice presidential
nominee Joseph Biden has slammed the Bush administration's
foreign policy, saying it "failed" to address issues like the
emergence of India and China as "great powers".
The Delaware Democrat, Chairman of the powerful Senate
Foreign Relations Committee, also termed as an "abysmal
failure" Washington's policies in Afghanistan and Pakistan,
rueing that those responsible for the 9/11 attacks in U.S.
have regrouped in mountains between the two countries and
plotting new attacks.
Senator Biden, known for his sharp acumen in foreign and
national security issues, hammered away at Republican
Presidential nominee John McCain's endorsement of the "failed
policies" of the administration.
"For last seven years, the administration has failed to
face the biggest forces shaping this century, the emergence of
Russia, China and India as great powers; the spread of lethal
weapons; and resurgence of fundamentalism in Afghanistan and
Pakistan," said Obama's running mate.
"... our country is less secure and more isolated than it
has been at any time in recent history. The Bush foreign
policy has dug us into a very deep hole, with very few friends
to help us climb out," Biden said at the Democrats' Denver
Convention last night.
But Democratic Presidential candidate Barack Obama, he
said, will usher in change on the domestic and foreign policy
fronts and will again establish America in the position of a
world leader.
Accusing McCain of being complicit in "this catastrophic
foreign policy," he maintained that America cannot afford four
more years of "this failure". PTI SK
