3 car makers in China to recall nearly 75,000 vehicles
By Kim Young-gyo
HONG KONG, April 12 (Yonhap) -- Three car manufacturers in China will recall about 75,000 units of their vehicles with tires from a South Korean tire maker accused of producing problematic tires, China's quality watchdog said Tuesday.
Kumho Tire Co., South Korea's second-largest tiremaker, has decided to recall 302,673 tires it produced at its factory in the northern Chinese city of Tianjin from 2008 to early 2011. The tires did not meet its internal requirements limiting the proportion of the use of recycled rubber to be 20 percent or under, the company said.
The General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine said Beijing Hyundai Motor Co., Great Wall Automobile Holding Co. and Dongfeng Yueda Kia Motors Ltd. will recall a total of 75,480 cars, starting from this Friday.
Beijing Hyundai will recall 63,588 vehicles produced between June 4, 2008, and Jan. 13, 2011, while Great Wall Automobile Holding Co. will recall 4,685 vehicles assembled between Oct. 30, 2008, and Jan. 28, 2011.
Dongfeng Yueda Kia Motors Limited will recall 7,207 cars.
