Iran Disbands Several Terrorist Cells

TEHRAN,April 26 (FNA)- Iran's Prosecutor-General and Judiciary Spokesman Gholam Hossein Mohseni Ejeii announced on Monday that the country's security forces have arrested a number of terrorists responsible for several recent attacks in Southwestern, Western and Northwestern Iran.
Ejeii made the remarks in a press conference here in Tehran and in response to a question on the latest measures taken by the state and the Judiciary with regard to the recent terrorist attacks in the Southwestern city of Ahvaz, Northwestern city of Zanjan and Western city of Sanandaj, including the assassination of Sanandaj's Friday Prayers Leader Mamosta Borhan Ali.

"Fortunately, the elements behind these incidents have been identified and arrested thanks to the efforts made by the IRGC (the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps) and Intelligence Ministry officials," he said.

"The elements involved in the Zanjan terrorist incident as well as the attacks in Sanandaj and Ahavaz were identified and arrested," Ejeii added.

"Investigations are underway into their case," the spokesman continued.

In April the Iranian parliament formed a special committee to probe into the terrorist attacks in the Western cities of Sanandaj and Marivan in Kurdistan province.

On March 24, gunmen killed two Iranian police officers and injured three others in two different terrorist attacks in the city of Sanandaj in Iran's Kurdistan province.

In another attack on April 1, a group of armed militants reportedly opened fire on a border police station in a village near the city of Marivan in the Kurdistan Province

At least four border guards were killed in the attack and three others were wounded.

Last week a senior provincial police chief announced that Iranian security forces have arrested eight terrorists in the Southwestern city of Ahvaz, the provincial capital city of the bordering Khuzestan.

The development came a week after unidentified gunmen attacked a security checkpoint in the city.

On April 15, two unknown gunmen on motorcycles opened fire at a security checkpoint in Ahvaz, killing one police officer and a civilian, and injuring three others.
