Envoy Warns about Washington's Divisive Plots in Region
TEHRAN, May 7 (FNA)- A senior Iranian diplomat on Friday warned that the US is seeking to spark tension in the region, specially after the recent popular uprisings by the regional nations which have reinvigorated resistance against the western powers.
Speaking at a meeting with Head of Lebanese People's Movements Najah Wakim today, Tehran's Ambassador to Beirut Qazanfar Roknabadi stated that the US seeks to create rifts and unrest in countries which lack the necessary conditions for a revolutionary move.
He also warned against efforts by the US to take advantage of the popular uprisings in the region, adding, "The US policy here is to ride on the wave of popular revolutions [in Arab countries] and to appropriate the revolts for [US] gains."
The Lebanese politician, for his part, expressed solidarity with the Islamic Republic for its resistance against the political propaganda by certain regional and foreign states and appreciated Iran's support for the common goals of regional nations.
"The Islamic Republic of Iran has always been under political attacks and propaganda by enemies. But such attacks are indicative of Iran's right stance," Wakim said.
