Gulf Cooperation Council commemorates 30 years on march of unity, integration

RIYADH, May 23 (KUNA) -- Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Abdullatif Al-Zayani said Monday the GCC will continue the march of unity and integration among its member states backed by the strong support of the leaders of these country.
Al-Zayani congratulated, in a press release issued here, the peoples and governments of the GCC member states on the 30th anniversary of the inception of the council in 1981.
On this occasion he thanked ruler of Riyadh region Prince Salman Bin Abdulaziz for sponsoring a ceremony to mark "this national occasion," renewing gratitude to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for supporting the GCC and hosting its permanent headquarters here.
The ceremony was attended by a large number of members of the Saudi royal family, cabinet members and public figures as well as dozens of foreign dip lomats based here and members of the GCC Secretariat.
Al-Zayani commended the GCC member states for enforcing the resolutions of the 31st session of the GCC Summit, held in Abu Dhabi, the United Arab Emirates, last December particularly the one relating to hoisting the GCC flag at the land, air and sea ports of these countries.
He hailed the great achievements made in the implementation of the Gulf customs union since 2003 and the Gulf common market since 2008, noting that these ambitious projects laid a firm foundation for integration among the GCC countries and the treatments of their citizens on equal footing.
