Seminar on work environment for NGOs in Azerbaijan convenes in Baku

Baku, June 21 (AzerTAc). A two-day seminar entitled “Work environment for NGOs in Azerbaijan” for civil society organizations operating in Azerbaijan has today commenced here.
The seminar is organized by Baku Office of the European Union.
Opening the ceremony, president of Azerbaijan National NGO Forum Rauf Zeyni underlined the importance of the event, expressing confidence it would contribute to ensuring human rights and freedoms in the country, developing civil society and studying foreign experience.
Employee of the Foreign Ministry Alimirzamin Asgarov said civil society is a new sphere for the post-Soviet countries, including Azerbaijan.
“But Azerbaijan’s weight on the international level is rising. I think that Azerbaijan’s civil society organizations will play serious role in the international arena. Today’s seminar shows that Azerbaijan intends to work with the European Union in the spheres of human rights and civil society,” he said.
Head of Political, Economics, Press and Information Section of the EU Delegation to Azerbaijan Jerome Pons underlined the importance of the seminar in bilateral relations of NGOs operating in the country and exchange of experiences.
Expert from Sweden, professor in law Sandrogen Klaes made a report on NGos experiences in Europe.
The conference continued with panel discussions on “International standards” and “Institutional and legal environment of NGOs”.
