EU-Azerbaijan Parliamentary Cooperation Committee`s 11th meeting wraps up in Baku
Baku, June 21 (AzerTAc). The 11th meeting of the European Union (EU)-Azerbaijan Parliamentary Cooperation Committee`s has wrapped up in Azerbaijan`s capital. Economic, political and social reforms, ways of solving the Armenia-Azerbaijan Nagorno Karabakh conflict, fight against organized crime and human trafficking, and other issues were discussed in the meeting.
A press conference was held following the meeting.
Speaking in the press conference, the Committee`s Czech co-chair, Milan Cabrnoch said Azerbaijan is an important partner for European Union. We praise achievements Azerbaijan has gained in all spheres, he said.
Azerbaijani co-chair of the Committee, Valeh Alasgarov noted during the discussions Azerbaijani side suggested expanding cooperation in legislative sphere as well.
‘Committee`s activity contributes to cooperation between the sides. The agreement on Partnership and Cooperation concluded between Azerbaijan and EU expires. The negotiations on Association Agreement between the EU and Azerbaijan are underway’, he added.
Cabrnoch, spoke of major events since the body`s last gathering in 2009. ‘Azerbaijan is a main partner of European Parliament and Commission. The visits of European Union`s leadership to Azerbaijan is an evidence of this,” he added.
Czech co-chair touched upon discussions on Armenia-Azerbaijan Nagorno Karabakh conflict. ‘We support territorial integrity of Azerbaijan. The conflict must be settled as soon as possible. The solution of the conflict is important for the region’, he said.
