Azeri media officials attend international conference in Samarkand

Samarkand, June 24 (AzerTAc). Chairman of Azerbaijan Press Council Aflatun Amashov and spokesperson of the Azerbaijan Ministry of Foreign Affairs Elkhan Polukhov have attended an International conference titled “The strengthening of economic independence of media as a driving force in democratic and liberal reforms” in Samarkand.
Speaking to the event, Amashov highlighted the government support of media in Azerbaijan. He stressed in 1998 the media censorship was abolished in Azerbaijan, adding in 2003-2006 “some important documents have been adopted for the development of the press”.
Amashov underlined “there are nearly 400 papers, 9 national, 15 regional TV channels, 15 radio stations and more than 50 journals in Azerbaijan”.
