Kuwaiti disabled athletes win 21 medals in int''l tournament

TUNIS, June 30 (KUNA) -- Top athletes of the Kuwaiti Disabled Sport Club have won 21 medals including five gold ones in the contests of Tunisia's fifth international tournament proceeding at the international sports stadium of Perdaus.
Meanwhile, three Kuwaiti champions, Abdullah Buland, Dhari Al-Mutairi and Hamad Hajji, have qualified for the London Olympics, due in 2012.
The Kuwaiti team, with these results, has secured its share in the 2012 tournament, with 13 seats.
Al-Mutairi hit the world record in the 100-m race (t-33 category), crossing in 18.33 seconds.
In the third day of the games, the Kuwaiti champions won 11 new medals, including one gold, earned by Buland in the hammer throw contests, three silver medal s, won by Buland, one by Dhari Al-Mutairi and one by Ahmad Al-Mutairi. The latter won the contests in the 200-m race.
Seven bronze medals were shared by Ahmad Al-Mutairi in the javelin, Abdul Rhman Al-Gallaf, who earned two in the discus and hammer throw contests, Hamad Al-Hajji in the discus, Majid Al-Daye' in the javelin, Jassem Al-Kanderi in the javelin, and Khaled Mallouh in the 400-m race.
In total, the Kuwaiti team earned up to 21 medals, including five gold ones, four silver and 12 bronze.
Shafi Al-Hajeri, the head of the Kuwaiti delegation, expressed in remarks to KUNA his satisfaction at the results that were scored by the national athletes, noting that they would exert greater efforts for hoisting the national flag high.
In a symbolic gesture of faithfulness toward the top leaders, Al-Hajeri said the athletes and the members of the delegation "are granting these victories to Their Highness the Amir, the Crown Prince and the Prime Minister, as well as th e government, the people, all national sportsmen and leaders of the Paralympics sports."
